Now that we are all living in the middle of a pandemic, the world has changed quite a bit. Some of you still go to work as normal, but most of you are working from home, doing what we call telework. After doing some research, it appears that the Covid-19 isn’t the only virus we need to worry about. Not surprising anyone, it seems that people are consuming more porn now that they are working from home, and hackers do love to use porn movies to get their tools out. Now that you are home, NSFW (Not Safe For Work) doesn’t really exist, if you feel like watching porn and working, no one can stop you. One thing to keep in mind is, your home network firewall isn’t as good as your office network firewall.

According to Tom Kellermann, head of cybersecurity strategy at VMware: «There has been a dramatic increase in cybercrime and cyberattacks over the past two weeks, targeting Americans, as the greater hacker community of the world appreciates that Americans are now working outside of their corporate firewalls»

Pornography sites have always been on the top 3 categories of sites that host malicious content, so one must be careful. Another way they can get to you is by trying to scam you, for example, you may get an email where they ask you for your bank info to give you a relief check, obviously, you should never disclose that type of information. Be smart.
One of the reasons hacking is increasing right now is because the hackers are also at home with more free time. Maybe they even lost their jobs so they are trying to make their money so as I mentioned above, be careful with the porn sites you visit and the porn videos you watch.

Good Digital Hygiene

Just like with the virus, good hygiene will go a long way in fighting against the virus. It is no different in the digital world. Now, there is no perfect way to defend yourself from hackers but good digital hygiene can go a long way.
The things you should do include, routinely changing your password, can be done every 6 months or every year, using work-issued devices for business since they will most likely be better protected, using a VPN that cloaks everything you do on the internet as it uses a private network to surf the web. These things are the same as going to the bathroom and washing your hands for the recommended 20 seconds.
Of course, the best way to protect yourself from an attack is to simply avoid the more targeted websites, so next time you think of seeing some porn videos on your favorite porn site, think twice or go at your own risk.
